A day after the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) announced its candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election in Mizoram, the opposition parties have also announced the names of their candidates.

Announcing its candidate, Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) said on Friday that the party unanimously agreed to field B Lalchhanzova, who is the general secretary of the party, as its nominee for the election.
Lalchhanzova was defeated in the 2018 assembly election in the Aizawl East-II constituency to MNF candidate- Robert Romawia Royte.

Meanwhile, the Congress nominated PC Zoram Sangliana, who is one of the members of the ‘political affairs committee’ of the party, for the lone Rajya Sabha seat.

Sangliana had successfully contested assembly elections in 1987, 1989, 1993 and 2008.

It can be mentioned here that the ruling MNF had nominated K Kanlalvena, who is the president of the MNF’s youth wing, as its candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election on Thursday.

In the 40-member assembly of Mizoram, MNF has 27 MLAs, ZPM seven, Congress five and BJP one.
