Manipur's COVID-19 death toll reached 200 as the illness claimed two more lives in Thoubal and Kakching, while the cumulative confirmed tally rose to 20,777 cases as 219 more people tested positive for the infection on Tuesday, the state health department said.
Of the new confirmed cases, 215 persons, including 114 males and 101 females, are from the general population while four are Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel, a release from the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.
The positive cases from the general population are 95 from Imphal West, 36 from Imphal East, 17 from Churachandpur, 16 from Tamenglong,15 from Thoubal, 13 from Bishnupur, five from Kakching, four each Chandel and Senapati, three from Ukhrul, two each from Tengnoupal, Jiribam and Kangpokpi, and one from Kamjong.
All are locals without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release stated.
Meanwhile, a total of 275 persons were discharged on Tuesday. With the new recoveries, the cumulative number of recovered cases is 17,534 (General Population - 14.930 and Central Security Personnel 2,604). The recovery rate is 84.39 per cent.
The number of active cases is 3,043 (General Population - 2.815 and Central Security Personnel - 228), it added.
In view of the surge in COVID-19 cases in the state, a weekly media briefing on Covid-19 is being held at the Directorate of Health Services since November 6 to facilitate effective communication between the Health Department and the public.
Those who are in contact with a COVID-19 positive person have been advised to isolate themselves. Contact Covid Control Room or CMO for testing, the health department stated.
