Chavang Kut - the post-harvest festival of the Chin-Kuki-Mizo (Chikim) was celebrated on Sunday at S Moljol village, Moreh, Tengnoupal district. This year, the festival was celebrated with fewer people due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The celebration began with "Pengkul Salam/ Trumpet Salute" to VVIPS and dedication prayer by Pastor Ngamhao, chairman Moreh Pastor Fellowship (MPF).
Haokam Lupho, vice president, Hangmi Phungpi Union, Manipur was the Kut Pa, while LS Seikhojang Baite, Secy. Kuki Chief Assn. Tengnoupal District and Thongsei Lhungdim, social worker, attended the programme as chief guest and guest of honour.
Col Sumit Sood, CO 43 AR Moreh and his family also attended the programme as special invitees. Leaders of Kuki Chief Association Tengnoupal District, Hill Tribal Council, Moreh, Tamil Sangam, Meitei Council Moreh, MMCM, KWU & HR, ACODOM also joined the Chavang-Kut celebration.
In Churachandpur, Kut festival was held at Tuibuang community hall which was attended by MLA of Saikot assembly constituency, TN Haokip, as chief guest, hosted by president of Kuki Inpi Churachandpur, Letpu Haokip. Presidents of UZO, PTC, Hmar Inpui, MPC and others were the special guests of the celebration organised by CVOs of Churachandpur.
The Kut festival was attended by invitees under strict adherence to COVID-19 SOPs where different tribes demonstrated cultural dance of post harvesting time. TN Haokip said that this year’s celebration of Kut festival will be memorable in history due to COVID-19.
Meanwhile, minister of Transport, Tribal Affairs and Hills and GAD, Vungzagin Valte in his Kut message said that he extends his heartiest congratulation to the people of Manipur, particularly the Kuki-Zomi-Mizo brethren on the happy and auspicious occasion of Kut festival.
