‘Lack of tracing primary contacts may be behind surging COVID-19 cases in Manipur’

The Peoples’ Task Force for COVID-19 stressed that there is an urgent need of increasing the healthcare capacity and manpower for treating COVID-19 patients in order to reduce the mortality rate in Manipur.

The Peoples’ Task Force for COVID-19 in Manipur on Sunday pointed out that the reason behind surging of COVID-19 positive cases in the state may be due to lack of identifying and tracing close and primary contacts of COVID patients.

The task force stressed that there is an urgent need of increasing the healthcare capacity and manpower for treating COVID-19 patients in order to reduce the mortality rate in the state.  

Urging the public to stop disclosing identities of COVID-positive patients in their respective localities, the task force appealed to individuals who are in close contact with any COVID-19 positive person to isolate himself or herself and get tested for COVID-19.

Besides, people with co-morbid condition needs to take more precautionary measures as it will be life threatening if the coronavirus once enters their body, it added.

The task force also said that an awareness campaign on COVID-19 was organised on Sunday at Yairipok Siphai Leikai along with the Red Cross Society, the Indian Medical Association and the Health Care Providers of India.
