Ban on display of Anal traditional clothes in Kut Festival

The Anals are neither Old Kuki nor New Kuki and the Kuki's claim of Anal as Old Kuki is historically and culturally incorrect as the Old Kukis on record in 1853 were, Khelema, Ranthai, Bete and Lamkhron, the Anal Naga Tangpi said.

The Anal Naga Tangpi (ANTA), an apex socio-political body of the Anal Naga community has banned displaying of Anal traditional clothes during Kut and other festivals.

Anal traditional clothes displaying in the backdrop of the stage in Kut festival last year by Kukis like their assets without the permission and consent of any Anal apex body was an insulting gesture to the Anal community, ANTA said in a release.

The Anals are neither Old Kuki nor New Kuki and the Kuki's claim of Anal as Old Kuki is historically and culturally incorrect and concocted as the Old Kukis on record in 1853 were, Khelema, Ranthai, Bete and Lamkhron, it stated.

Any Kuki-Chin-Mizo organisations formed since 1933 did not include Anal in their group, the release said and continued “inscription of Anal tribe as one of the Kuki's on the stone of ‘Pathen Tonsot Songpi’ in an undisclosed spot is a brainless and serious crime against humanity in modern world.”

It appealed to the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) and the State Level Kut Festival Celebration Committee and the Kuki community at large not to repeat such insulting gestures during a joyous state level festival like Chavang Kut.

“The state government should look into such provocative attitudes of certain communities against the wishes of the other to tarnish history which would fan ugly communal tensions in the state,” it urged.

Saying that Anal tribe will not tolerate this insult anymore, it warned, “any Anal blood going against this communiqué will be ostracised from the community without warning.”
