The All Manipur Students Union ( AMSU) on Wednesday shut down six private schools in different parts of the state after the schools were found collecting tuition fees from the students.
The schools are MECI Explorer School Changangei, Paree Imom Singdamshang Langjing, Tiny Tots English School Dewlahland, Bright Foundation School Thoubal Khetri leikai Tomjing, St Xavier School Moirang and MEM school Ghari.
A release by publicity and information secretary AMSU, Lhunpao Lupheng stated that the union will continue to shut down schools which collected tuition fees from students. The union also appealed to private school owners to stop collecting tuition fees for the lockdown period.
The students union has been demanding the state government to revoke the education(s) department order that directed the private schools to collect 30 per cent of monthly payable fees from the parents of students for the period of closure of schools, i.e from April 2020.
As per the latest order, the education department instructed all the private schools and aided schools to collect 30 per cent of monthly payable fees from the students starting from April last. Besides this, it also directed to give 50 per cent of monthly payable salary to teachers and staff.
The All Manipur Students Union on October 9 had even locked the gate of directorate of education (S), Lamphelpat, Imphal demanding the state government to revoke the order.
