Seven arrested for destroying marigold field in Manipur’s Kangmong

All the arrested who also trampled harvested tomatoes, are residents of Heigrujam Maning Leikai, Bishnupur district, the police said.

A day ahead of World Environment Day, seven men were arrested for destroying marigold plantation and harvested tomatoes at Kangmong, Bishnupur district on Thursday, police said.

Nambol police with the help of the cybercrime unit, Imphal West, arrested the seven men who were identified as Longjam Othello Meitei ,24, son of L Loken Meitei; Naorem Somorjit Singh ,24, son of N Guna Singh; Sorokhaibam Leishemba Meitei ,19, son of S Eshei Meitei; Khaidem Malemnganba Meitei ,22, son of late Kh Manihar Meitei; Nongmaithem Robertjain Singh ,20, son of N Sanatomba Singh; Laishram Kumarjit Singh, 23, son of L Shamo Singh and Naorem Dipinchandra Meitei ,21, son of N Meghachandra Meitei.

All the arrested are residents of Heigrujam Maning Leikai, Bishnupur district, the police said, adding that the marigold field is owned by one Irengbam Maniyai Singh, 48, son of I Shajou at Kangmong Maning Leikai.

After receiving a report that some miscreants were destroying full bloomed marigold field and trampled tomatoes piled up on the roadside, the police team arrested the seven men. The miscreants also uploaded the act in social media which went viral.

The police said a case has been registered at the said police station for further action.
