Manipur’s COVID-19 death toll climbs to 150; confirmed tally reaches 17,604

Six more patients succumbed to COVID-19 in Manipur on Tuesday.

Manipur on Tuesday reported six more COVID-related deaths, taking the death toll to 150 while 180 new COVID-19 positive cases pushed the state's tally to 17,604 cases, the state health department said.

In a span of 24 hours, as per the latest updates from the COVID-19 Common Control Room, one 49-year-old female from Kangpokpi), 63-year-old male from Imphal West, 65-year-old male from Churachandpur, 27-year-old female from Churachandpur, 67-year-old male from Imphal West and 76-year-old female from Imphal West died at JNIMS, Shija Hospitals, Dedicated Covid Health Centre, Churachandpur, Home Isolation, Churachandpur and two at RIMS respectively.

The 180 persons confirmed asnew COVID19 positive cases included 98 males and 82 females and all are from the general population. The cumulative number of positive cases included general Population - 14,889 and Central Security Personnel - 2,715. The number of active cases is 4,246 (General Population - 3,963 and Central Security Personnel - 283).

The positive cases from general population are 59 from Imphal West, while 35 are from Imphal East, 21 from Thoubal, nine from Tengnoupal, one each from Noney, Kamjong, Kangpokpi and Ukhul, eight from Bishnupur, three from Senapati, 12 from Churachandpur, 23 from Tamenglong, and six from Chandel.

All the new positive cases are locals without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, Additional Director and spokesperson, state Health Services, Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang said in a release.

Meanwhile, 151 more patients have been discharged. The cumulative number of recovered cases is 13,208 (General Population - 10,780 and Central Security Personnel 2,428). With it, the recovery rate is now 75.02 per cent, the release stated.
