Tamenglong: Man drowns in Barak river after saving wife

The man drowned while rafting to his field on the other side of Barak river in Tamenglong

A man drowned in the Barak river while rafting through it to get to his field on the other side of the river bank in Tamenglong district early Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as a 56-year-old Isaac Rd Pamei, son of late Hubamdiyang of Chramram village, Tousem sub division, Tamenglong district and was a resident of Guigailong, Tamenglong Ward No. 2.

The incident occurred around 5:30 am Tuesday when the man and his wife were crossing the Barak river on a raft to get to their vegetable field on the other side of river bank. The strong force of the river water overturned their raft. The man drowned after saving the life of his wife.

Neighbouring villagers were searching for the body, but it was yet to be found till the filing of this report. He is survived by his wife and five children.
