The government has prohibited sale and use of firecrackers in entire Imphal West revenue district till the Durga Puja festival celebration is over.
According to an order issued by Imphal West district magistrate N Praveen, the district SP informed the former of the likelihood of causing serious annoyance or injury to the general public in view of the volatile law and order situation in the district if there is no control/ ban on sale and use of crackers in the district during the ensuing Durga Pujah festival, 2020.
“Such injury and annoyance may result in serious breach of peace, disturbances to public tranquillity and danger to human lives and properties,” it stated.
It further said that the prohibition was imposed under sub-section (2) of Section 144, CrPC for prevention of breach of peace, disturbances of public tranquillity and danger to human lives and properties, to prevent riot and to avoid confusion among the public.
