The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday raided the house of a senior official of the Accountant General office in Imphal and unearthed Rs 54 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 24 lakh during the search operation.
The CBI conducted searches at the residence of Konjengbam Ibothem, senior accountant of the Accountant General, in Imphal, from 4 am Friday.
Konjengbam Ibothem hails from Wangoo Sandangkhong but is presently staying at Sagolband Meino Leirak under Imphal Police Station.
The CBI ACB Imphal Branch has registered a case against lbothem u/s 13 (2) r/w 13 (1) (b) of P.C.Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) for possession of alleged disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs.58,75,321/- approx.
It is alleged that the accused had acquired huge assets both movable and immovable in his name and in the name of his family members which are disproportionate to his known sources of income to the tune of Rs.58,75,321/- during the period August 1, 2005 to July 30, 2020.
During the raid, hard cash of Rs.54,45,930/, gold ornaments worth Rs.32,89,000/, 130 Nos. of Pension Payment Order Books in respect of various pensioners, 139 ATM Cards and other incriminating documents showing purchase of homestead land/paddy land, construction of three storied RCC (G+2) building, investments in LIC, Banks and other Financial Institutions were recovered.
Search in the residential premises of the accused is still continuing at the time of filing this report. The search operation was carried out with the gate locked from inside.
