India's COVID-19 death toll reaches 1,17,306

India has reported 54,366 new COVID-19 positive cases and 690 deaths in the past 24 hours.

With 54,366 new cases and 690 deaths in the past 24 hours, India's COVID-19 tally surged to 77,61,312 and death toll reached 1,17,306 on Friday, the Union Health Ministry said.

On Thursday, 73,979 persons were discharged and the cumulative number of recovered cases of the country is 69,48,497, while the active case stands at 6,95,509.

The recovery rate of the country is 89.53 per cent.

India falls second in Covid-19 confirmed tally after the United States with 86,61,651 cases till date.

Mizoram and Lakshadweep, the union territory, has not reported any fatalities so far.

Maharastra continues to lead with the highest death rate with the report of 198 more fatalities since Thursday.

Meanwhile, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in the entire Northeast stands at 2,87,452, which is 3.7 per cent  of the country's total case. Assam continues to report the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the region.
