Church donates food for frontline workers, volunteers assisting returnees in Manipur

Appreciating the police and medical team working in the frontline to contain the spread of coronavirus and assisting the thousands of returnees to the state, the church among others, has come forward to help the administration and donate food for frontline workers and volunteers who are helping the returnees.

On Wednesday, Tungjoy Baptist Church distributed vegetables to frontline workers stationed under Senapati and Kangpokpi districts. Church members distributed the vegetables to police personnel stationed at Mao gate, Tadubi police station, Senapati district food bank and medical department. They also distributed the vegetables to Kangpokpi district food bank, medical department and police department.

Speaking to the Imphal Free Press, Tungjoy Baptist Church pastor Paoshemai Mayu Dahriini said, “It is a freewill contribution to frontline workers who have sacrificed and struggled for the people during COVIDF-19 pandemic. The church believes that people of Manipur can unite together and fight COVID-19 without any differences”.

Apart from encouraging and providing vegetables to frontline workers, the church also distributed vegetables to Mahika village under Kangpokpi district.

Food items donated to volunteers in Jiribam

Meanwhile, Imphal East deputy commissioner W Malemnganba also distributed food items to volunteers of civil bodies who have been rendering services while receiving stranded Manipur people at Jiribam railway station since the state government began to bring back stranded people since May 13.

The food items were distributed to AJUCA,JDO and IPSA from the food bank opened under Imphal East deputy commissioner Rangitabali Waikhom.

AJUCA president Maipaksana Mangang said since the transportation of Manipur people, for the first time from Chennai to Jiribam railway station, AJUCA, JDO and IPSA have been serving the passengers. He thanked the deputy commissioners of Imphal East and Jiribam districts for providing food items and acknowledged the service of the civil voluntary organisations. He also said the food items would be utilised for those at isolation quarantine centres.

JDO president N Sadananda Meetei expressed his gratitude for helping the civil bodies which have been helping the returnees amid COVID-19 crisis. He thanked the Jiribam deputy commissioner and expressed his happiness for providing the food items in recognition of the volunteers who have been staying away from home and serving at the isolation quarantine centre. He said the civil bodies will continue to render services at their best level.
