The emergency meeting on the present situation of COVID-19 held at the chief minister’s secretariat on Thursday resolved for local MLAs, civil bodies, local clubs to take initiatives in strict maintenance of standard operating procedure (SOP).
The emergency meeting chaired by chief minister N Biren and attended by MLAs, health department officials, DCs and representatives from people’s task force on COVID-19, deliberated on two common agendas and decided not to impose total lockdown for the time being.
Sources said that during the meeting, the CM reportedly assured that the government will put maximum efforts to arrange more equipments and infrastructures that are needed in fighting the pandemic and to control the state's alarming COVID-19 situation.
He sought suggestions from the people including student and civil bodies to create new SOP models.
Biren during the meeting drew the attention of the local MLAs, civil bodies, local clubs should take the initiatives for the people to maintain strict SOP in the locality level for a minimum of 14 days with immediate effect.
Citing the weakened manpower with many healthcare workers becoming COVID-19 positive, the CM further reportedly assured to appoint 100 to 200 doctors and nurses to fill up the lack of manpower. It is learnt the state has issued recruitment orders for 100 doctors on a temporary basis but only 74 candidates turned up.
The CM also said to have announced to set up new dedicated hospitals for COVID-19 at RIMS Dental Block and at JNIMS instead of constructing a new hospital. The sources further informed that Biren assured to supply adequate face masks, hand sanitiser and other essential items to fight against COVID.
It has been informed that the stakeholders present in the meeting suggested the government to focus more on holistic approach in fighting the pandemic instead of imposing a lockdown. The gathering also suggested the state to set up more COVID-19 hospitals and enforce strict SOP among others.
