Operation Namaste: Assam Rifles Manipur battle ready against Coronavirus attack

Assam Rifles Manipur has been ensuring Force preservation and preparedness to thwart the threat of COVID-19 attack in the state. Reviewing the efforts being made amid the rise of COVID-19 cases in the state, Director General, Assam Rifles, Lieutenant General Sukhdeep Sangwan visited the Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (IGAR-South) and briefed the forces about Operation Namaste, a release stated.

Operation Namaste was launched by the Indian Army to fight against the Coronavirus pandemic. The operation was launched way back in March to help the Indian Government in dealing with the outbreak.

During the visit, the DG was informed about the relief measures undertaken by the Assam Rifles through distribution of essentials and medical assistance being extended to ESM, orphanages, old age homes, women, children and local populace of Manipur in the fight against COVID-19. He was also briefed about the prevailing security situation by the head of Assam rifles in Manipur, Major General K P Singh AVSM, YSM and Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), it said.

The Director General directed the forces to continuously review the progress of the Assam Rifles security preparedness and complimented the force for taking adequate measures in maintaining Zero COVID positive case and ensuring force preservation.

DGAR also took part in a tree plantation drive conducted by Mantripukhri Battalion inside the garrison. Assam Rifles, in its ‘Go Green’ initiative, has planted more than 80,000 trees this year at various locations of Manipur, it said.

The DG also visited forward company operating base and interacted with commanders and troops and reviewed the security posture of Assam Rifles, the release stated. He urged Assam Rifles to continue extending unstinted support to the people of Manipur for achieving peace, development and prosperity, the release added.
