Three arrested for attempting to deliver contraband items into quarantine centre

The arrested told the police they came to deliver edible items at a quarantine centre.

Three men were arrested for trying to deliver contraband items packed in a tiffin box into a quarantine centre at Nambol Higher Secondary school in Manipur, police said on Wednesday.

The three arrested were identified as one RK Victor, 25, son of late RK Ranjit of Ningthoukhong Bazar Ward No XI; Konthoujam Rohe, 27, son of K Dhanachandra of Ningthoukhong Mayai Leikai Ward No XII and RK Bhuvonsana, 27, son of RK Bhimo of Ningthoukhong Mayai Leikai Ward No XI, the Nambol Police said.

The arrested told security personnel at the quarantine gate that they came to deliver edible items at the quarantine centre, police said. They said that when the police personnel deputed at the gate of the centre checked the box, four plastic packets of distilled indigenous country (DIC) liquor, one packet of WIN cigarette, some Ganja and one can of tobacco were found inside the tiffin box.

The arrested persons along with the seized items were handed over to the Nambol police for further actions.

Meanwhile, Imphal West district commando seized contraband items on Monday at about 4.40 pm during a cordon and search operation at Khoyathong Polem Leikai. As per report issued from state police department PRO, it is mentioned that 2,460 pieces of talab, 2460 pieces of T-5 (chewing tobacco), 810 packets of Rajnigandha and 540 pieces of Bijali (khaini) were seized from a house during the operation. The items were seized from the house of Ngangbam Bichitra Devi, 39, daughter of late Ng Bhimchandra of Khoyathong Polem Leikai.

Police said the seized items belonged to one Mithun of Silchar who is staying at Imphal in a rented house but recently left for Silchar. The seized items were handed over to the Food Safety Administration, Imphal West for further action.

In another incident, a team of Imphal West district commando arrested two persons with contraband items on Tuesday at about 7 pm from Yurembam Makha Leikai. They have been identified as Salam Danabir Singh, 35, son of S Ahaljao Singh of Yurembam Makha Leikai and Maibam Joykumar, 42, son of M Laingam Singh of Salam Makha Leikai.

The police team seized 1650 pieces of T-5(zarda), 540 pieces of Sajan, 1020 pieces of Bijali (Khaini), 50 tins of Baba Black (50 gm), 150 pieces of Win cigarette and 336 pieces of Nebala (Khaini). The arrested persons along with seized items have been handed over to the Food Safety Administration, Imphal West for further actions.
