Textiles, Commerce and Industry Minister Th Biswajit on Wednesday urged the people to buy and use only indigenous products to improve the state economy amid the COVID-19 situation.
The minister was speaking at the launch function of 'Sangai Tea' at Sanjenthong, Imphal. He appreciated the efforts of state entrepreneurs towards making the state self-sufficient amid the prevailing COVID-19 crisis.
While noting that becoming self-sufficient and self-reliant through self-production is also the desire of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that such efforts from state entrepreneurs should be encouraged by all.
Bishwajit said that as tea is a beverage consumed daily by the people of Manipur, such products will be of extreme help in enhancing the state economy, he said.
“Let us use products made or produced in the state instead of products imported from outside,” he urged the people and hoped that the growth of entrepreneurship in the state would bring fresh hopes, especially among the youths of the state thereby encouraging them to work harder despite the challenges like COVID-19.
It is said that 'Sangai Tea', which is packaged in the state by Manipur Foods and Beverages after procuring tea leaves from Jorhat, Assam, will be made available to the people at a discounted price.
On the occasion, Manipur Foods and Beverages also handed over a cheque of Rs 10,000 towards the Thongju assembly constituency COVID-19 Relief Fund through the minister, who is also the Thongju assembly constituency MLA.
