Manipur COVID-19 tally crosses 15,000 mark with highest single-day spike of 426 positive cases

The death toll rose to 111 as two more Covid patients succumbed to the illness on Saturday.

Highest single-day positive cases of 426 pushed the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Manipur to 15,141 and the death toll rose to 111 as two more Covid patients succumbed to the illness on Saturday, official sources said.

An 82-year-old male from Imphal East and 63-year-old female from Chandel died at the Shija Hospital and Jivan Hospital respectively, the 5 pm bulleting from the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated on Saturday

The confirmed Covid cases included 12,511 cases of the general population and 2,630 Central Security Personnel.

The active cases rose to 3587, including 3,277 cases of the general population and 310 Central Security Personnel .

Of the new cases, 416 persons are from the general population and 10 are Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel.

The new positive cases from the general population included 181 from Imphal West, 124 from Imphal East, 26 from Tamenglong, 24 from Thoubal, 19 from Churachandpur, 15 from Bishnupur seven from Tengnoupal, five each from Kamjong and Ukhrul, three each from Kakching and Chandel, two from Kangpokpi, and one each from Jiribam and Senapati, the release stated.

Only 12, three from Imphal East and nine from Imphal West, are returnees from other states while the rest are locals without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release added.

Meanwhile, a total of 198 persons were discharged on Saturday, taking the cumulative number of recovered cases to 11.443 (general population - 9,127 and Central Security Personnel - 2,316). The recovery rate is 75.57 per cent, the state health department stated.
