‘Recognition of self responsibility is only way to prevent drug abuse in society’

District level Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Committee organised an awareness and education programme on ‘Prevention of Substance and Alcohol Abuse’ in relation to Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign at Ngangnou Bazaar, Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai, Thoubal district.

Under the Union Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry, the district level Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Committee organised an awareness and education programme on ‘Prevention of Substance and Alcohol Abuse’ at Ngangnou Bazaar, Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai, Thoubal district on Wednesday.

The event was attended by director of State Level Coordinating Agency, Manipur, Dr A Jayanta Kumar Singh, state coordinator of Ministry or Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, Md Ajimuddin, District Social Welfare officer, Thoubal cum member secretary of Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Committee, Thoubal,  Arambam Kameshwar Singh, member of District Level Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Committee, Yumnam Laxman, vice-chairperson of Lilong Municipal Council, Lilong, Md Nahachouba and uppa pradhan of Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai, Md Ramijuddin as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

Giving his keynote address, Yumnam Laxman briefed on the theme, objectives and importance of the programme. As a resource person, senior counsellor of IRCA, Pakhangkhong, Thoubal, Oken Naoriya shared his testimony on his real life experience on how he became a drug addict and how successfully he has been helping the drug addicts to recover while in rehabilitation. He also expressed that mental, physical and spiritual balance is the key to bring changes in one’s mind for recovery.

Arambam Kameshwar explained the importance of parents, guardians and well wishers and their roles in the process of recovery of an addict.

Dr A Jyanta Kumar said that recognition of self responsibility is the only way to prevent drug abuse in the society. He expressed the importance of a supportive environment to reduce relapse among the recovering addict. He further urged the family, friends, and community to know more about their role against the social issue.

Md Ajimuddin said Thoubal is the most energetic and committed district among other districts of Manipur which are selected for Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign. He further asked the youth to focus on capacity building and to take full advantage of such awareness.

As a part of the event, an interactive session was also organised where many queries and doubts were cleared by Dr A Jayanta Kumar.
A total number of 66 people participated in the programme. A pledge taking ceremony was also done by all the participants.
