Manipur witnesses highest single-day spikes in Covid-19 deaths, positive cases

Six more Covid-19 deaths pushed toll to 103 and confirmed tally surged to 14094 with 301 new positive cases on Wednesday.

Highest single-day spike in Covid-19 fatality of six and positive cases of 301 pushed the death toll to 103 and the positive tally to 14,094 in Manipur Wednesday.

The six deaths included one male from Imphal West, two males from Imphal East, one male from Thoubal), one female from Kangpokpi) and one male from Tamenglong. Of the 301 new patients, 281 persons (150M, 131F) from the general population and 20 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were confirmed as new COVID19 positive cases on Wednesday, a release from the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

The positive cases from the general population are from Imphal West (49), Imphal East (94). Thoubal (57), Ukhrul (3), Kangpokpi (21), Bishnupur (9). Chandel (14), Tamenglong (4), Kakching (15), Churachandpur (12), Noney (2) and Senapati (1), the release stated.

The release also stated that seven persons from Imphal West are returnees while the rest are locals without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

The total number of discharged persons is 86. The cumulative number of recovered cases is 10,915 (General Population - 8.718 and Central Security Personnel 2,197). With it, the number of active cases is 3,076 (General Population - 2,709 and Central Security Personnel - 367). The recovery rate is 77.44 per cent, the release added.
