COVID-19 cases in Manipur surge to 108 as six more test positive

The total number of recovery cases in the state has increased to 38 and the recovery rate improved to 35.18 per cent, state health department spokesperson Dr Mangang said.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Manipur surged to 108 as six more people, five males and one female, tested positive in addition to the 13 new positive cases which were reported in the morning, the state health department said on Wednesday.

The six new cases were confirmed COVID-19 positive at the VRDL, RIMS. Of them, two are from Kakching district, who returned from Delhi recently. Another two returned from Chennai and are from Tamenglong district. The other two are from Thoubal and Kamjong districts and returned from Delhi and Mumbai respectively, state health department spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang said in a release.

Of the 13 reported in the morning, two new cases were tested positive at the VRDL RIMS while 11 tested positive at VRDL, JNIMs. Of them, six are females and seven males. One is from Bishnupur, two from Tamenglong, three from Senapati, one from Churachandpur, four from Tengnoupal and two from Ukhrul, Dr Mangang said.

Tamenglong reported first COVID-19 cases with two returnees from Chennai testing positive for the virus. One each from Bishnupur and Churachandpur are also returnees from Chennai. The ones from Senapati returned from Mumbai while four others from Tengnoupal returned from Delhi recently, the release stated.

All the new COVID-19 positive patients are in stable condition and have been shifted to COVID Care facilities at RIMS and JNIMS, the spokesman said. All necessary precautionary measures such as containment in respective districts and contact tracing are under way, he said.

However, the total number of recovery cases has increased to 38 and the recovery rate has improved to 35.18 per cent, the doctor said.

On Wednesday, 12 cases, five males and seven females, were discharged from JNIMS after they were found COVID-19 negative. One of them is from Imphal East and the rest from Churachandpur, the spokesman said, adding they will be under home quarantine for the next 14 days. On Tuesday evening, 12 COVID-19 cases from RIMS were discharged after they were tested negative for coronavirus on two consecutive RT-PCR tests at VRDL RIMS, the doctor said.

With the rise in the recovery cases, the number of active cases stands at 70, the spokesman, who is also aditional director, health department, stated in the release.
