A day after the RT-PCR tests conducted on a woman show different results, a 34-year-old man, who was tested COVID-19 positive on Sunday, was tested negative in his second RT-PCR test on Tuesday.

According to information received by the Imphal Free Press, the man also went for a second test after getting information about the woman being found COVID-19 negative in her second RT-PCR test conducted at a private testing centre.

Meanwhile, director of JNIMS Dr Th Bhimo has said that a person should stay isolated and self-monitor his or her health for 10 days or be admitted to a Covid Care Centre if he/she is once tested positive for COVID-19.

When the Imphal Free Press enquired about the case of the woman who tested COVID-19 negative at a private testing centre on Monday after she was tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, the JNIMS director clarified “testing negative in just one day might be human error during sample collection as there is a chance of getting negative if the quantity of nasal swab collected is not adequate.” The doctor however clarified that the machine of RT-PCR gives accurate results.

“The woman has to isolate herself immediately as a precaution from spreading the virus to others instead of checking which of the two tests results are the accurate one as she had tested positive in one of the tests,” the doctor asserted.

Meanwhile, regarding the differences in COVID-19 tests results, Chingmeirong Development Organisation (CDO) has drawn the attention of the government and has sought clarification from the relevant authorities.
