After the local MLA, authority concerned and state government failed to address the grievances of people plying along Saparmeina-Saikul road despite fervent appeal, the Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai (KISG) with assistance from the local MDC and various social workers revamped the road recently.

Approximately 15 km long road between Saparmeina and Ekou passing through Konghom area that comprises more than 30 villages connects Kangpokpi district headquarters with Saikul sub divisional headquarters and other parts of Saikul areas and serve as the lifeline of thousands of people.

President of KISG, Seimang Lupho said that despite of all the efforts and appeal, the local MLA who is supposed to response instantaneously has remained a mute spectator over the grievances of his people while the concerned department and the state government have also failed to listen to the woes of the people.

“Considering the unexpected manner of the local MLA, concerned department and the state government, we approach the elected member of ADC Sadar Hills from the area and other social workers for assistance in renovating the road and we revamped the road with their assistance in the larger interest of the people,” said Seimang.

“It has come to our knowledge that there is around Rs 19-20 lakhs for maintenance of Saparmeina-Saikul road and we have decided to halt issuance of maintenance work order since no maintenance have been witnessed even after repeated appeal,” he added.

The concerned PWD under any circumstance shall not issue any maintenance work order with respect to Saparmeina-Saikul road without the knowledge of KISG and CVOs of Saikul, said the KISG president.

It may be mentioned that almost a month ago on September 19, considering the plights of the people, KISG and Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) Saikul had a joint inspection of the road and drew the attention of the local MLA, concerned PWD and the state government to repair the lifeline of Saikul area within a week. It also cautioned that in case of failure, they all shall be held solely responsible for any eventuality. Moreover, executive member of BJP ST Morcha Manipur, L Tongkholen Khongsai had also drawn the attention of the concerned department to initiate swift action in repairing the road.
