Sit-in decries bomb threat

A Chinese made hand grenade was found in front of a grocery shop located at Bashikhong Wangkhei Loumanbi, Imphal East.

Decrying the bomb threat on Friday night in congested area in Bashikhong Wangkhei Loumanbi, Imphal East, women of the locality staged a sit-in-protest on Saturday.

A Chinese made hand grenade was found in front of a grocery shop located at Bashikhong Wangkhei Loumanbi, Imphal East. The shop is owned by one Lairenlakpam Kanta Singh, 49, son of L Sanatomba of Bashikhong Wangkhei Loumanbi.

It is reported that bomb was came across by some locals on Friday night at about 8:30. The sit-in was staged in front of the shop where the bomb was planted.

Speaking to the media on the sideline of the protest, Kangujam Lata, a protestor, said that the locals strongly condemned the planting of bomb in a congested area. 

“If there is a misunderstanding, it could have been solved through negotiation instead of causing panic to the people,” she said.

People have been suffering due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Many people could have been the victim if the bomb exploded, she lamented and questioned who will bear the responsibility if there were any casualties.

The protestors held placards that read “Eikhoi Santi Pammi” (We Want Peace); “Mirakta Bomb Thamlamba Yaningde” (condemned planting of bomb in congested area) among others. No groups have yet claimed responsibility over the planting of the bomb.
