Girl returnee from Chennai tests positive for Coronavirus in Kamjong

The positive case has been shifted to Imphal and contact tracing is underway, informed nodal officer of Kamjong district.

A girl from Kamjong district who returned from Chennai has been tested positive for COVID-19 at a village community quarantine after having completed 14 days of institutional quarantine at JNV Ramva, according to sources.

The swab sample of the girl was taken on May 26, but she had to leave the institutional quarantine centre on 27 May before her test result was declared since she had completed 14 days in quarantine. Her test result came only on May 31 while she was undergoing quarantine at her village community quarantine centre, health authorities said.

The positive case has been shifted to Imphal and contact tracing is underway, informed nodal officer of Kamjong district.

Convenor of Tangkhul Coordination Forum on COVID-19 (TCFC), Tuisem Kamkara stated that it is not safe to send the returnees to their respective villages without completion of the test. He added that it is very unfortunate that the returnee tested positive after leaving the institutional quarantine centre. He also appealed to the Manipur government to prioritise the test of the returnees before 14 days of institutional quarantine. 

Three from Ukhrul were tested positive earlier. In this regard, CMO Ukhrul Dr Kapangring Shimray informed this correspondent that the collection of samples for 500 contacts has started and will be completed in two days.  Ninety-two samples from Sacred Heart High School, Hamleikhong, 170 samples from Ukhrul Higher Secondary School, Wino Bazaar, 144 samples from Khaivaren,  94 from ITI, Kasomtang and other quarantine centres will be taken, the CMO said. He appealed to the populace of Ukhrul to extend cooperation to fight the pandemic.
