COVID-19 death toll in Meghalaya rises to 51; 176 new cases reported

The state has so far reported a total of 5,641 COVID-19 positive cases, including 1,615 active cases, 3,975 recoveries and 51 deaths.

Coronavirus has claimed four more lives in Meghalaya, taking the death toll in the state due to COVID-19 to 51 as on Wednesday, official sources said.

The state has so far reported a total of 5,641 COVID-19 positive cases, including 1,615 active cases, 3,975 recoveries and 51 deaths. 

Meghalaya reported 176 new COVID-19 cases in a span of a day of which 113 cases are from East Khasi Hills, 30 from West Garo Hills, 18 from Ri Bhoi, 11 from South West Garo Hills and one case each from East Garo Hills, North Garo Hills, West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills.Meanwhile, a total of 3,975 COVID-19 patients have so far been discharged. “Till date, swab samples of 1, 50,809 persons have been sent for testing of which 1, 45,170 were found to be negative,” an official said.  

In Meghalaya, East Khasi Hills has the highest positive cases with 1,052 infections, including 48 armed and paramilitary forces and 1,004 civilians, followed by East Jaintia Hills with 213, West Garo Hills with 163, and Ri Bhoi with 103 cases.

In the other districts, 24 cases are in North Garo Hills, 22 in South West Garo Hills, 12 in West Jaintia Hills, 11 in East Garo Hills, nine in West Khasi Hills, four in South West Khasi Hills and south in South Garo Hills. 

So far, as many as 42,710 people have entered the state.
