Tamenglong bazaar shut, declared containment zone as Covid-19 positive cases surge

As many as 40 more people in the district tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Normal life has been paralysed in Tamenglong district headquarters on Tuesday after the district magistrate declared several areas as containment zone in view of the sudden surge in COVID-19 positive cases in the district.

As many as 40 more people in the district tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, while on Monday 30 positive cases were detected, according to a release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room.

All markets and shops establishments, including pharmacy and essential commodities shops, in and around Jadonang Bazaar till the UBS Junction traffic point were closed down as a part of containment measures. The entire area under Chingkhiulong colony, Ward No V, District Council Colony and Model Village Area are also declared containment zones by the district administration.

With the new cases reported on Tuesday, the total positive cases have surged to 464 in Tamenglong district. With the recovery of 22 cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, altogether 358 people have recovered while active cases stand at 86.

District magistrate of Tamenglong, Armstrong Pame, in an order, said that in view of the impending threat of pandemic in the area, it has become expedient to issue containment measure to prevent further spread of the diseases in the area, and the geographical areas are sealed and declared containment zone with immediate effect. He informed that entry and exit is restricted in the containment area with closure of schools, offices and ban in public gathering in any form and vehicular movement in the areas.
