Manipur records highest single-day spike of 269 new COVID-19 positive cases; death toll 65

Manipur on Tuesday recorded another highest single-day spike  of 269 fresh COVID-19 in a span of a day, taking the state's total tally to 10,746 cases, official sources said.

Of the new cases, 231 persons - 142 males and 89 females - are from the general population and 39 individuals are Central Armed police Force (CAPF) personnel, a release from the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated. 

The new cases among the general population include 53 from Imphal West, 49 from Thoubal, 44 from Imphal East, 40 from Tamenglong, 15 from Noney, nine from Tengnoupal, seven from Kamjong, four from Jiribam,  two each from kakching, Bishnupur and Churachandpur,  and one each from Ukhrul and Senapati. Only  four persons from Kakching are returnees from other states while the rest are locals without any significant travel history, the release stated.

The new COVID-19 positive cases are being shifted to COVID Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, it added. 

On Tuesday, the state's cumulative number of deaths increased to 65 after a 51-year-old man from Imphal East died at JNIMS. 

Meanwhile, 57 more persons were discharged in a span of 24 hours after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test. With it the cumulative number of recovered cases climbed to 8,039 and the number of active cases stands at 2,642. The recovery rate is 74.80 per cent, the state health department said.

"If you were in contact with a positive person, isolate immediately. Contact Covid control room or CMO for testing. Together we can break the COVID chain," it stated.

The public can also avail online teleconsultation by government doctors from home between 10 am and 3 pm every day except Sunday by downloading ‘eSanjeevaniOPD’ app at Google Play Store or by visiting the website ‘www.esanjeevani.opd.in,’ the release added.
