Tamenglong district in Manipur on Monday recorded the highest single-day surge in COVID-19 positive cases with the detection of 30 more new cases. With it, the district has registered a total of 422 COVID-19 positive cases, including 336 patients who have recovered and 86 active cases.
The new 30 positive cases detected on Monday are from New Canaan, Model village, Ramgailong, Council Colony, Chingkhiulong and a few other places of Tamenglong district headquarters and all have no travel history.
The district magistrate of Tamenglong has declared containment zone at Tamenglong Ward no. 5, Chingkhiulong area where all 17 family members of the health staff tested positive for COVID-19 on September 27.
Meanwhile, the district magistrate has notified in an order that passenger vehicles, including busses and Tata Sumo carrying passengers from Imphal, Jiribam and other places to Tamenglong district headquarter, will be strictly monitored. Despite the notice, most of the vehicles are carrying passengers with maximum capacity, it stated.
Any owner or driver of vehicles violating the norms shall be liable to be punished under the National Disaster Management Act, 2005 and the permission granted shall immediately be cancelled, it stated, adding that the order shall come into immediate effect until further orders.
