Meghalaya Congress demands immediate compensation for deaths due to natural calamity

Opposition chief whip PT Sawkmie said that many lives were lost, houses damaged and many injured due to the incessant rain.

The Meghalaya Congress party has expressed their heartfelt condolences to the family members of those who lost their lives due to incessant rain and has urged the state government to immediately provide financial assistance to them.

Expressing his condolences, Nongthymmai MLA Charles Pyngrope of the Congress said that the government should have regulated infrastructure development, especially in areas which are vulnerable and prone to natural calamity so that lives could be saved in the future.

Opposition chief whip PT Sawkmie said that many lives were lost, houses damaged and many injured due to the incessant rain and he urged the state government to provide immediate financial assistance.

Sawkmie also pointed out that a three-year-old who died on Friday in Mawlai due to the natural calamity. He was buried without post mortem being conducted, as the family had to wait from three in the afternoon till 10 pm at night and they decided not to do so. He requested Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to provide compensation to the family, even if the post mortem was not done, as it is an open case of death due to natural calamity.
