The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) was first detected in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019 and is thought to have been transmitted at a wet market selling meat, fish and produce. But scientists are working to determine which animal the virus was passed on from. The virus slowly spread in the city of Wuhan and then to other cities of China and other countries. Slowly it became a pandemic. The virus has since become a global pandemic, with at least five million people infected to date while more than 3,62,102 people have died worldwide. The whole world has been under lockdown for the last three months with all economic activities put to a grinding halt putting the world economy under threat of a big economic crisis. There is still no visible sign of the pandemic ceasing and there is no vaccine or the right medicine for the Corona Virus. The world is still under threat from this new disease.
The question that the whole world wants an answer is “From where the virus originated” and “How the virus spread to all these countries”? Could it have been prevented from spreading? Who was responsible for such a pandemic which have affected millions of people all over the world? Yet the answer remains to be found. The theory that COVID-19 originated in a laboratory in Wuhan, China as claimed by the US President Donald Trump emerged as an explosive claim. The US Administration claimed that there is ample proof for their claim which China, denied, outright. But one thing is certain that the human to human transmission of the virus began from Wuhan, China. It spread slowly all over the world in due course of time. The American administration accused China of concealing facts and circumstances leading to the spread of the virus and further claimed that had China been truthful at the very beginning, the outbreak could have been contained at the city of Wuhan itself at that time. But as China concealed the real picture of the virus the whole world is facing the hardship today.
Whatever may be, the world needs to know the real culprit. Too many people have been killed by the virus and too many people have been facing untold miseries due to the lockdown imposed in so many countries of the world. Not just America but many countries around the world is demanding for a thorough probe of the matter. At the beginning China has been skeptical of the probe as demanded by these different countries and refusing to give permission to enter Wuhan city, China for the investigation. Countries like America, Australia, Germany Italy, and 120 other countries have called on China to join an investigation into the origins of the new coronavirus. in efforts to establish greater transparency and an “early warning” system between nations in the event of future viruses.
World Health Organisation (WHO) in its Annual General Assembly held virtually for the first time adopted a resolution by consensus urging a joint response to the crisis. The resolution, tabled by the European Union, called for an “impartial, independent and comprehensive evaluation” of the international response to the pandemic. 1t said the investigation should include a probe of “the actions of WHO and their time-lines pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic”. Due to so many pressures from all corners, China has softened its stand and will allow an investigation. It is high time the world knows the real culprit behind the pandemic. The world has suffered too much in the last three/four months and do not know how long the suffering would continue. At such a time the scientists and doctors of the world should work collectively to find a vaccine and cure for the disease. I am very hopeful that the day won’t be far when such a vaccine is found for the humanity to live without fear of such a dreaded disease.
