COVID-19 in Manipur: Five more test positive; total cases rise to 83

Of the total 83 COVID-19 positive cases, 72 are active cases whereas 11 have recovered and discharged from hospitals, state health department stated.

Manipur on Monday reported five more COVID-19 positive cases, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 83, the state health department said in a statement.

According to a release issued by state health department spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, of the new cases, three were tested at the VRDL of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) while two were tested at the VRDL of the Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS), Imphal.

The three cases confirmed at the VRDL, JNIMS are of Delhi returnees while one of the two cases confirmed at the VRDL, RIMS is from Imphal West and is a Delhi returnee while the other is a Chennai returnee from Kamjong district, Dr Mangang stated, adding they are being shifted to Covid Care Facilties at RIMS and JNIMS.

Seven cases were confirmed on late Sunday of which four were tested at the VRDL of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) while three were tested at the VRDL of the Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS), Imphal and confirmed as COVID-19 positive.

Of the four cases confirmed at the VRDL, JNIMS, two who had returned to the state from Chennai were from Senapati district while the other two who returned from Uttar Pradesh were from Bishnupur district. The three cases confirmed at the VRDL, RIMS were from Thoubal district, Dr Mangang stated.

"The two males (23 and 22 years) and the lone female (22 years) are from Thoubal district. They are returnees from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Hyderabad respectively," the state health department spokesman stated.

Dr Mangang futher said that all the new cases are in stable condition and are being shifted to Covid Care facilities at JNIMS and RIMS. All control and preventive measures like containment and contact tracing are taken up by the concerned district authorities, he added.

On Sunday, the number of positive cases were 71 as five more persons tested positive for the virus of which Ukhrul district reported three cases while Noney and Imphal East reported one case each.
