Autumnal Equinox, which occurs on September 22 every year, was observed jointly by the staff of Kakching Range Office and Lions Club of Kakching Greater at Sora Mamangching, Kakching district by planting various endogenous tree species on Tuesday.

The event was celebrated with tree plantation and range forest officer of Kakching, Naorem Munal Meitei, who is also the president of Lions Club of Kakching Greater, told the media persons that on this autumnal equinox, the sun shines directly above the equator and thus both day and night are of equal length on the particular day.

“From tomorrow onwards, the sun will go down towards the southern hemisphere and thus we people in the northern hemisphere will start to count down for the winter season. On such rare day which occurs only twice a year, we are happy to observe the ‘autumnal equinox’ celebration by planting various endogenous tree species on the Sora Ching which is much related to our folklore word of the 'Inung-Sora-Teiba', the word for rising of morning Sun from this hillock,” he elaborated.

Munal further told that observing such an important day with the planting of trees will surely help to save the present day degraded by the global environment. He also appealed to the general public to join hands while observing such important days for the sake of saving the earth and the future generations.
