Mayang Imphal gangrape case: MMWO volunteers storm Cheirap Court; bail hearing postponed

The Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation voiced against release of accused in the gangrape and murder case.

Volunteers of the Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) on Monday stormed the Cheirap Court complex, demanding non-release of the accused in Mayang Imphal gangrape and murder case.

Special Judge (POCSO), Imphal West postponed the bail hearing of one of the accused, Md Noor Mohammad on September 29.

MMWO volunteers protested in front of the Cheirap Court gate for about half an hour around 1 pm. Later, the police dispersed them from the court gate.

The normal sitting of the court was suspended on Monday and subsequently, the police did not produce the accused for bail hearing.

Md. Noor Mohammad is among the six accused, who were arrested by police in connection with Mayang Imphal minor gang rape and murder case.

The court had sent all six accused namely, Arish alias Maja Khan, 19, son of Md Sikander of Heibong Mathak Leikai; Md Salim Khan, 21, son of Md Majahar Chesam of Heibong Makhong Mathak Leikai; Md Noor Mohhamad, 20, son of Md Kalam of Heibong Makhong Mathak Leikai and Md Feij alias Mohamad,22, son of Md Sanayai of Mayang Imphal Bangoon Mamang Loukok to fifteen days judicial custody.
