Assam Rifles personnel intercepts contraband

The contraband consignment uncovered comprised of Myanmarese Godzilla Anti-Mosquito Coils, 700 Kgs Betel Nuts and Myanmarese Diablo beer cans.

Troops of Assam Rifles on Tuesday intercepted a consignment of contraband being smuggled across the border from Myanmar to India. A statement issued by the IGAR South said that the while carrying out search operations in the area between New Songyang and P. Chehyang, around mid day, the troops located some concealed items in the undergrowth. On closer examination, the Assam Rifles colum from Chandel Battalion unearthed contraband items worth more than Rs 3 lakhs.The contraband consignment uncovered comprised of Myanmarese Godzilla Anti-Mosquito Coils, 700 Kgs Betel Nuts and Myanmarese Diablo beer cans. The recovered items have been handed over to Police Station Molcham, it said.

AWCA hands out sewing machines to women trainees

CHURACHANDPUR: Action for Women and Child Advancement (AWCA), an NGO supported by Manipur State Women Development Corporation Ltd, on Tuesday distributed sewing machines to 20 of its trainees at the administration building of AWCA located at Lailam Veng, Churachandpur. The programme was attended by DC of Churachandpur, Pawan Yadav as chief guest, while DSWO of Churachandpur, N Binod Singh was the special guest. The DC handed out the sewing machines to the trainees along with certificates. While lauding the effort of AWCA, the DC said that the NGO is doing a great job under its dynamic secretary, Grace Zamnu, who is also the lone female ADCC member. The one stop centre opened by the NGO has helped the destitute women immensely and the free distribution of 20 sewing machines will do wonders for the trainees in time of COVID-19 pandemic, he added. Grace Zamnu said that they started AWCA in 2010 and is doing work related to women and child development for which they had been a partner of North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Project (NERCORMP) and has one charitable school with 40 students. AWCA also works to tackle the menace of human trafficking, she added.

Minister Biswajit extends financial help

IMPHAL: Thongju MLA, Thongam Biswajit Singh extended financial help of Rs 10,000 to winner of 2nd Runner up of Miss Earth 2020 organised by Divine group India, Maria Chanu Pangambam from Kongba Kshetri Leikai on Tuesday.
The cash incentive was handed over to Maria by the representatives of COVID-19 Voluntary Workers’ Association of Thongju at her residence. Maria Pangambam Chanu won three titles including the title of 2nd Runner up.
