Wangkhem Birmangal to be awarded Thiyam Ibochoubi National Award 2020

The Thiyam Ibochoubi National Award will be presented on September 30 as a part of observance of International Translation and the programme will be held at Tripura.

Thiyam Ibochoubi National Award 2020 will be conferred to Wangkhem Biramangal, said a release issued by secretary of Sahitya Thoupang Lup, M Uttamkumar.

In the release, Uttamkumar said that Biramangal is among Manipuri Diaspora in Agartala, Tripura. He is a well known writer, critic, translator and cultural activist. Acknowledging his dedication and commitment, Sahitya Thoupang Lup has selected him to confer the award, he added.

He continued that the book entitled ‘Takhelgi Puwarida Manipuri’ is one of the best books written by Wangkhem Biramangal. The book presented the history of Manipuris in Tripura. Biramangal also played important role in translating Manipuri literature into Bengali, said Uttamkumar.
