Four men attempt to allegedly abduct police constable

The incident has been strongly condemned by Lamding Educated Welfare Association (LEWA).

Four unknown persons tried to allegedly abduct a police constable but the members of local club of the area caught the alleged abducters and rescued the constable on Tuesday, sources said.

According to the sources, the incident occurred on Tuesday around 5:30 pm at the adjoining lane between Lamding Khumanthem Leikai and Sangaiyumpham. The unknown persons came in a red coloured Chevrolet Beat car and followed the police constable who was returning home in plain clothes from Khongjom Police Station after his duty. Noticing the attempt of the four persons who allegedly tried to take away the constable, the club members started chasing them and finally they were caught, and the constable rescued. The car in which they came was also badly damaged by the locals.

The four alleged kidnappers were identified as Maibam Vladimin alias Thoiba, 21 and Sinam Surjakanta, 20, son of Ingocha, both from Salungpham Mayai Leikai; Samurailatpam Biswanath Sharma, 21, son of Parikhit from Ukhongsang Mayai Leikai and Thangsabam Dipak, 41, son of Brojendro from Uripok Takhellambam Leikai.

Sources added that a toy gun was also recovered from their possession. Later, they were handed over to Thoubal Police Station along with their car bearing registration number MN1G-6564 and other things recovered from them.
