Kamjong district FPS agents stage protest against non-payment of transportation cost

Against the alleged non-payment of transportation cost since October 2017 and margin money since September 2018 by NFSA Transport Contractor of Kamjong district, Fair Price Shop (FPS) agents from 52 Centres under Phungyar Assembly constituency staged a protest at FCI Godown, Meizailung, Ukhrul amid the drizzling rain on Saturday.

Convenor of Fair Price Shop Agents’ Association (NFSA), Phungyar assembly constituency Ngamreiso Jajo informed this correspondent that “NFSA transport contractor Amit Kumar has not paid transportation charges since October 2017 and margin money since September 2018 to the rationing agents of 52 FPS centres under Kamjong district.”

He added that the allotment for transportation cost for 52 Centre under Kamjong district is Rs 5 lakh approximately per month and margin money is Rs 65 per quintals. 

Ngamreiso Jajo informed that the FPS agents of various centres from Kamjong district have lifted their sanction quota of rice from FCI Godown, Ukhrul and have loaded in their respective trucks.

He further continued that they have lifted the rice from FCI godown so as their shares are not lapsed or go wasted. However, they have decided not proceed to their respective centres until the transport contractor pays their due transportation charges and margin money.

Ngamreiso Jajo informed that “in this regard, we have met the minister, director and transport contractor concerned through the help of the MLA concerned. However, we are yet to get our NFSA rice transportation charges since October 2017. We are in no position to bear the transportation cost at our own expenses. We have suffered enough.”

He added that if the authority concerned does not respond to their plight and sufferings, the association would be compelled to take up necessary democratic course of action including agitation with all the ration card holders. 

Numbers of vehicles loaded with rice could be seen parked on both sides of the road just outside the premises of FCI Godown at Meizailung, Ukhrul.
