ASER state-level training ‘WAVE1’ concludes

WAVE - 1 focuses on access to distant learning opportunities of rural Children during school closures

State-level training programme, ‘WAVE 1’ of the Annual Status of Report (ASER), which was being organised with the aim to collect the educational status of rural children across the country, concluded on Saturday.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the training programme was conducted through video conferencing (zoom). Keeping in mind of the prevailing situation, ASER decided to conduct the survey through phone calls to about 1 lakh households and 16,000 schools across the country in three phases namely WAVE1, WAVE2 and WAVE3.

WAVE - 1 focuses on access to distant learning opportunities of rural Children during school closures. It also includes collection of data related to children education such as access to learning materials/activities, household facilities related to children education, support and challenges faced by children, teachers, schools, parents amid the lockdown situation.

For Manipur, WAVE 1 training programme was started on Thursday and concluded on Saturday through video conferencing (zoom). It is said that 18 volunteers are participating in the programme from across the state.

State ASER officials said that the volunteers will be surveying over 150 government schools and 200 households per district and the whole survey is likely to be completed by January next year. For the WAVE 1 survey of Manipur, it will be completed by September 20.

It seeks to provide access to remote learning for rural children in the state as well the country, and facilitate, support, and meet the challenges met by children, parents, teachers and schools.

State coordinator, Yambem Chingsang Singh; ASER Associate, ASER Manipur, Ng Besterday and Keisham Kishan Singh attend the training programme as resource persons.

ASER is a research unit of Pratham Education Foundation. The foundation has been working on  children's education for the past 25 years across the country.
