A one-day sensitisation programme on National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 was organised by the department of SCERT, Manipur at the multipurpose hall of SCERT Lamphelpat on Friday.
While delivering the presidential speech of the programme, director of SCERT M Meenakumari Devi said that education plays an important role in developing a community as well as society. Providing quality education is an important factor to bring social justice and equality. Besides that quality education can enhance the growth of science and technology in a society, she said.
The Union Cabinet passed the NEP 2020 on July 29 this year, knowing the importance and necessity of changing the education system with the changing time, she added.
Commenting on the new education policy, Meenakumari further said that the new education policy does not differentiate between science and arts so that there is integrity and unity of knowledge.
NEP is multidisciplinary and it is based on conceptual understanding, creativity and critical thinking, said the director. She also appealed to the staff of SCERT and the people to understand the NEP and help materialise its goals. Commissioner of SCERT, M Harekrishna attended the programme as chief guest.
