Manipur: 'Wahik' infestation worries farmers at Pallel

Rice scarcity seems inevitable in the near future and the farmers are spending sleepless nights due to the issue.

The paddy fields of Yaingangpokpi, Pal Wangma, Kanglou, Charok, Lourel etc at Pallel under Kakching district are infested with ‘wahik’, an insect, the Pallel Loumee Chaokhat Lup (PLCL) stated on Friday.

The poor farmers borrowed money to get insecticides and sprayed on the fields to save the rice fields but in vain, stated a release. Rice scarcity seems inevitable in the near future and the farmers are spending sleepless nights due to the issue, it stated.

As a representative of all the farmers of Pallel, PLCL appealed to the government to have sympathy for the poor farmers and help them in every possible way, it stated. It also sought help to prevent further spreading of the infestation in other areas, it added.
