DG Assam Rifles visits Manipur

The director general was briefed in detail by the various commanders on ground about the prevailing security situation and operational preparedness.

Lieutenant General Sukhdeep Sangwan, AVSM, SM**, visited the field formations and forward areas of Assam Rifles in Manipur from Monday to Tuesday, stated a release issued by IGAR (South).

During the visit, the director general was briefed in detail by the various commanders on ground about the prevailing security situation and operational preparedness, it stated. The General expressed his satisfaction on the security measures and operational preparedness of the Assam Rifles. He complimented Head Quarter Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) for efficiently managing the security situation in the state, it added.

It further stated that the director general interacted with the troops deployed in the forward locations. He also appreciated the untiring efforts of the forces in difficult and inhospitable conditions and commended them for carrying out people friendly operations. The director general was also briefed about the efforts being undertaken for Force preservation and COVID-19 preparedness of Assam Rifles in Manipur, it added.

It further stated that the director general directed to continuously review the operational preparedness and complimented the Force for maintaining effective counterinsurgency gird. He exhorted Assam Rifles to continue extending unstinted support to the people of Manipur for achieving peace, development and prosperity, it added.

Meantime, troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) recovered 58 packets of WY tablets (each packet of 10,000 tablets), 170 packets of illegal foreign cigarettes (WIN) worth approximately Rs 17.5 crore which were being smuggled from Myanmar, it further stated.

On receiving a specific information regarding move of suspected vehicles carrying some illegal items in Khemdo area, an MVCP was established at Khemdo on Monday. Troops deployed at the MVCP stopped a Maruti Gypsy and a Suzuki Access (two wheeler) and carried out a detailed check of the vehicle which was coming from New Songyang, it stated. On checking, 58 packets of WY tablets and 170 packets of WIN cigarettes worth approx Rs 17.5 crores were recovered at Khemdo.

On questioning, the two aprehendees were identified as John Thangjalet Haokip, a resident of Saibol Joupi , Chandel dist and Mr Vickey Haokip resident of Khangbarol, Chandel district. They have further been handed over to Chandel Police Station along with the recovered items, it added.
