The farmers of Lamlai in Manipur have sought government attention as most of the paddy fields of the area have been massively affected by infestation of ‘wahik’ (insects).
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee Co-opted member Achoibam Deben along with members of Lamlai Kendra Development Committee visited the paddy fields of Lamlai assembly constituency that have been affected by insects on Tuesday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the visit, Deben said most of the paddy fields have been affected by ‘wahik’ and other insects, causing grave concerns to the farmers. Due to the prevailing scenario, almost all the farmers of the assembly constituency are living under fear that the insects may affect largely in paddy production, he said.
He urged the authorities concerned and the government to monitor the issue in order to control the infestation. Lamlai Kendra Development Committee will also extend necessary assistance for the needy farmers in time, he added.
Meanwhile, Deben donated table, chair, footballs to YDA club (a local club), Thamlapokpi, Lamlai, Imphal East. Ration items including monetary assistance were also donated to the quarantine centers of Yourbung, located at Lamlai assembly constituency, Imphal East.
