The party in a release also urged the people not to ill-treat recovered COVID-19 patients and their families or ostracise them from the neighbourhood. The only way out from the corona pandemic is to maintain physical and social distancing and to make the body immune system stronger with regular exercise, it said.

On top of that, people should extend maximum support to the measures taken up by the authority, it added. The release urged the government to ensure daily essential items are available in abundant during the lockdown, it said.

The party also suggested keeping all the returnees at the institutional quarantine centre rather than sending them to community quarantine centres in their respective districts, it added.

Most of the district quarantine centres do not have adequate infrastructure and do not strictly follow the guidelines laid down by the World Health Organisation and the Indian Council of Medical Research, stated the CPI.

The Left party appealed to the authority concerned to set up a special team of medical directorate to constantly inspect and monitor district and community quarantine centres, the release added.
