COVID-19 in Manipur surges to 6,382 positive cases; death toll rises to 29

The state recorded 130 more COVID-19 positive cases and one more death due to the virus infection on Tuesday.

Manipur on Tuesday reported one more death due to COVID-19, taking the state's death toll due to the illness to 29, while the total number of confirmed cases rose to 6,382 as 130 more people tested positive for the virus infection, according to official sources.

"A female aged 55 years from Thoubal district expired at the Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) in the last 24 hours,” Additional director and spokesperson, Health Department, Manipur, Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang said in a release.

The victim was admitted to the hospital on August 21 with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, acute chronic kidney disease, hypothyroidism, post respiratory pacemaker implantation with COVID-19, and died on Tuesday 6:30 pm.

Meanwhile, the state's COVID-19 active cases rose to 1,903 active cases and of the new COVID-19 positive cases, 127 cases - 83 males and 44 females are from the general population and three are personnel of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), the release issued from the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

The new cases included 60 from Imphal West, 22 from Thoubal, 14 from Tamenglong, seven from Bishnupur, six each from Churachandpur and Jiribam, five from Imphal East, two each from Ukhrul, Senapati and Kangpokpi, the release stated.

Only two persons from Tamenglong out of the general population are returnees from other states while the rest 125 are locals without any significant travel history, it stated.

In the past 24 hours 120 patients were discharged after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test. The cumulative recovered cases is 4,450 of which 3,566 are from the general population and 884 are Central Security Personnel, it stated.

With the 120 new recoveries, the recovery rate has gone up to 69.72 per cent, it added.

The new positive cases are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release added.

It further stated that miking is being continued in Imphal West district as a part of intensive awareness drive.
