The 5th biennial Manipuri Association of Canada (MAC) convention was held online with live telecasts on Facebook and YouTube on August 16, collaborating with the Manipuris residing in different parts of Canada (Toronto, Montreal, Saskatchewan, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Vancouver).
A release stated that the event was conducted online due to COVID-19 pandemic. Celebrated artists from Manipur namely Rosy Heisnam, Mangka, AJ Maisnam, Arbind Soibam, K Bobin, Kennedy and Mahesh Changmayum along with talented Manipuri artists of different ages from Canadian Manipuri community, and Manipuris from other parts of Indian cities also took part with excellent performances to make the event cheerful and memorable, it stated.
During the convention, the responsibilities had been assigned to the newly elected office bearers, it stated. Their names and designations are Nabakishwor Singh Haobijam as president; Russiachand Heikham as vice president; Prithiviraj Kangjam as secretary, Tolen Moiranghem as assistant secretary; Abhijit Wangjam as treasurer; Dilipkumar Sharma and Budhachandra Kh as executive member, it stated.
Joy Laishram, Joy Chabungbam, Promud Hamom, Jananjoy Rajkumar and Raneshwar Sharma were also selected as advisory members, it stated. With the support and cooperation of newly elected office bearers, new upcoming projects were presented to facilitate the Manipuri community inside and outside Canada during the tenure, it added.
Some of the projects listed were to support new immigrants to Canada and students; to support underprivileged students and old aged; organise a talent show; work with some like-minded NGOs, and explore Canada, it stated. MAC will extend the support and invite all the interested individuals including Media fraternities, artists, students etc. to come and explore Canada, in this project, it stated.
