The villagers carried the expectant woman on a handmade bamboo cot for more than 15 km until she was picked up by an ambulance arranged by the KKL and brought to the Churachandpur district hospital.
In yet another case of poor infrastructure, a young expectant woman was carried on a handmade bamboo cot by the villagers owing to lack of healthcare centre and deplorable road condition in a remote village under Henglep sub-division, Churachandpur district.
The villagers carried the expectant woman on a handmade bamboo cot for more than 15 km until she was picked up by an ambulance arranged by the Kuki Kanglai Lawmpi (KKL) and brought to the Churachandpur district hospital.
The 32-year-old woman, Nemneikim is the wife of one Sounminthang from Henglep village and she was in need of immediate medical attention for her child delivery. The villagers from Henglep and Khaopijang had to carry her in an emergency to reach the district hospital. In the nick of time, the woman was admitted at the hospital and the delivery was done successfully on Thursday afternoon.
It may be mentioned that the incident of Nemneikim was not the first of its kind that happened in the remote village of Henglep sub-division. There had been several incidents where the villagers had to carry sick people on foot to the hospital due to the deplorable road condition. Henglep village is approximately 100 km away from the Primary Healthcare Centre in the district headquarter.
