The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has condemned the appointment of unqualified teacher as principal of DM College of Teachers' Education (DMCTE) and stated that they will file a complaint to National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) if the state government do not act on the matter.

A release issued by DESAM stated that they have been demanding the authority concerned to replace the present principal of DMCTE with a new qualified one. The department of Higher and Technical Education had notified to appoint a new principal on August 22, but appointed an unqualified teacher as principal who does not fulfil NCTE norms and standard 2014, it added.

“The appointment was done forcefully in spite of the demand by DESAM to appoint a principal who fulfils NCTE criteria and the act is highly condemnable. If the state government does not draw attention in this regard, the student organisation would lodge a complaint to NCTE directly,” said DESAM in the release.

It further stated that the newly appointed principal holds PhD in Education but as per norms of NCTE, the qualification needs to be recognised by the state government. The recent appointment of the new principal has openly violated NCTE norms, it added.

If there is no qualified teacher for the post, the state government should appoint the director of Higher and Technical Education as principal of the college for time being, said the release.
