Manipur expands sample collection teams for Imphal West district as death toll rises to 22

On Saturday, the state reported 83 more COVID-19 positive patients, including 22 personnel of the Central Reserved Police Force, pushing the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 5132.

As COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur continue to surge, the state has expanded sample collection teams for Imphal West district to 25 doctors and the district surveillance teams have also been expanded to tackle the evolving COVID-19 scenario in the state, the state health department stated.

The state surveillance officer is regularly monitoring COVID-19 situation of Imphal West, and arrangement for testing of tanker drivers are also made, a release by the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated on Saturday.

On Saturday, the state reported 83 more COVID-19 positive patients, including 22 personnel of the Central Reserved Police Force, pushing the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 5132. The state also reported two more COVID-19 deaths, taking the death toll to 22, the state health department said.

Of the 61 general patients who tested positive for the virus, 26 are from Imphal West, 17 from Imphal East, five from Bishnupur, three from Chandel, five from Thoubal, four from Churachandpur and one from Kakching. Only one from Chandel is a returnee. The rest have no significant travel history, the release stated.

One 34-year-old male patient from Churachandpur succumbed to COVID-19 at UNACCO Covid care centre while another, a 70-year-old woman from Thoubal, died at JNIMS facility due to COVID-19 and co-morbid condition. With it, the death rose to 22 on Saturday. The state reported its first death due to COVID-19 on July 29.

Meanwhile, 194 more patients have been discharged after they were found negative for COVID-19 on RT-PCR test. With it, the cumulative recovered cases stand at 3455, including 517 Central security personnel, and the recovery rate is now 67.32 per cent, the release stated.

The number of active cases is 1655, including 816 Central security personnel.

The new COVID-19 patients have been shifted to covid care facilities in the state and all medical precautionary measures and contact tracing of the patients are in place, additional director and spokesperson of the state Health Services Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang said in the release.
