A release issued by proprietor Kh Chanu Leimatombi stated that the present situation in the state, owing to the lockdown imposed to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, has affected the handloom workers and sellers in the state due to increase in the price of yarn, unavailability, less demand etc.

Even with the help given by the government and many social workers, the bread winner of the family through handloom are still facing a hard time, she said. Those families who have stopped weaving have started facing problems of hunger, less supply and work, it stated.

The organisation appreciates the steps taken up to help these helpless families by the government, the release said. Every year, Leima Traders has been giving employment to many people as well. However, unavailability of yarn and subsequent price hike of the yarn has hampered their work, it added.
